Cellular services will remain suspended in select cities during 9th and 10th Moharram. According to sources, cellular services in tier 1, 2, and in some cases, tier 3 cities will remain suspended during 9th and 10th Moharram.
As a point of reference, tier 1 comprises important cities such as provincial capitals, and the following tiers include smaller ones. Although specifics cannot be revealed here for security concerns, we can say that on Ashura, cellular service will be suspended in several cities (numbering in the several dozens). Mobile phone signal suspension may begin as early as 5 am and persist up until 11 pm.
Sources have disclosed that many sensitive Balochistan regions will experience outages during the aforementioned time, while specifics on other cities remain secret. This was agreed upon at a high-level meeting on Friday that was presided over by Mir Ziaullah Langove, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Home and Tribal Affairs.
For Muharram, more than 20,000 security personnel have been stationed across the province, and provincial and district control rooms have been established to keep an eye on the situation. Balochistan has also outlawed pillion riding from August 6 to August 16.
Depending on the state of law and order and the timing of the Ashura processions in the region, the outage schedule may vary for different cities. In case of an emergency, customers are encouraged to take preventative action to deal with the cellular outage.
