Warner Bros. revealed on Wednesday that the release date of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been moved back by more than eight months, from March 17, 2023, to December 25, 2023. Aquaman 2 will see the return of Ben Affleck’s Batman.
The first Aquaman film grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. The sequel to Shazam!, Fury of the Gods, was supposed to be released in December of this year. It has arrived on Aquaman’s old birthday, March 17, 2023.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed earlier this month that the two films were likely to be rescheduled, with Aquaman moving to Christmas. Shazam!, which was released in 2019, was a small success by superhero standards, grossing $365.9 million, but it was well-liked and hailed for adding a fresh vitality to the genre. It told the story of Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a foster child who evolved into the superhero Shazam (Levi).
In the second movie, Lucy Liu, Helen Mirren, and Rachel Zegler join the cast for the first time. The teaser for the movie made a big splash at San Diego Comic-Con last month.
