The Punjab Excise Department’s registration and transfer systems are experiencing difficulties. Following a glitch in the biometric registration and transfer system, the Punjab Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department will suspend biometric verification for three months.
According to the details, the system didn’t work because the old and new ways of registering vehicles were different. This year, the department switched from a manual system to a biometric one, but it was hard to get the old vehicle data to work with the new system, which caused long delays.
The ban will last until December 11, 2022, which is 11 months from now. In the meantime, the government will add information about 177,000 old cars to the new system. The department made it clear that those who want to register or transfer their cars will have three months to do so.
The biometric system has been linked to the National Database and Registration Authority by the Punjab government (NADRA). Under the new system, buyers and sellers have 30 days to use biometric information to transfer or register their cars.
The system will put all of the information about each car into a single database. This will make it easy to keep track of and be responsible for each car. The public and car dealers praised the excise department’s move because it makes things easier and more transparent.
