On Wednesday night at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Pakistan and Afghanistan put on a match for the ages. Afghanistan bowled hard to make a match out of it, even though they were only allowed to score below 129/8.
They fought hard to defend their total. They stopped Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Mohammad Nawaz from being a threat and pushed the game into the last over.
Afghanistan’s hopes stayed alive because Fazalhaq Farooqi and Fareed Ahmed each took three wickets. But in the crucial over, Farooqi did the right thing by going for yorker length deliveries, but he didn’t do them right.
Because of this, he threw two strikes in a row. Pakistan was in a perilous position at 119/9.
At 119/9, Pakistan was in a dangerous spot. But then Naseem Shah came through. He hit both full-toss balls for sixes, putting Pakistan over the line and giving them a memorable win.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka have now made it to the final of the Asia Cup 2022 and will play for the title on Sunday (September 11). India, the defending champion, and Afghanistan have both been kicked out of the race, so tomorrow’s game between them is now only for educational purposes.
