TikTok Update Will Restrict Live Streaming To Adult Hosts

TikTok said in a news release that it is continually improving the measures it has put in place to protect its users and artists and look out for their well-being. So, as of November 23, 2022, users will have to be 18 years old to live stream on the site, up from 16.

The short video platform went on to say that this decision was made after considering how many people watch its videos worldwide. Also, the strategy fits with other products with age restrictions, like direct messaging, which users must be 16 or older to use, and features requiring users to be 18 or older to give virtual gifts or make money.

The new adult audience option for live streaming will be available in “the coming weeks,” according to a company based in China. It will let creators limit their audience to people over 18.

For example, TikTok says that the live broadcast may include a comedy act better suited for people over 18 or that artists may feel more comfortable talking about a traumatic event if only adults can join the conversation.
