Zong 4G, Pakistan’s leading mobile telecommunications network, held an event on October 20th, 2022 at its headquarters to acknowledge the network’s excellence in maintaining digital connectivity during the recent calamitous times, and to honor those who played a leading role in fulfilling this commitment.
Over one-third of the nation has been afflicted with the recent climate change-induced floods. One of the sectors most impacted by this catastrophe is the country’s telecommunications industry, which had already been in a vulnerable position in terms of Pakistan’s broader macroeconomic status. Floods in Pakistan disrupted over 12% of CMPAK’s network. Resultantly, the company has spent the majority of the past couple of months working zealously to ensure continuous connectivity to its customers.
Zong understands how crucial connectivity is for its users in uncertain times like this. For this reason, Zong’s network crew has been tirelessly operating even in difficult and dangerous flood-hit areas to provide Zong customers top-notch network services. Owing to its team’s brilliant teamwork, Zong was able to disperse some technical network teams to conduct on-ground restoration activities, as well as assign others with the task of constant network quality enhancement. Despite immense challenges, Zong’s technical staff managed to perform network improvement campaigns with targeted advancements in various sectors.
To recognize and reward the network team’s ceaseless efforts, an event was organized at Zong headquarters. Individuals and teams who contributed to Zong’s network excellence were presented with awards at the ceremony. Several dignitaries were in attendance including the Chinese Ambassador, Provincial Minister for Environmental Coastal Development, the Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication, and Zong’s top officials.
Speaking at the event, Zong CEO Mr Wang said, “I am extremely proud of our technical employees who remained on their toes, day and night, to restore network in areas which were completely submerged in flood-water and where the infrastructure was damaged. Our teams recovered 99% of the CMPak network in three weeks, which is a commendable effort.”
Minister of IT and Telecommunication Syed Amin Ul Haque applauded the network’s superlative quality during this time of crisis, saying, “Zong has shown remarkable resilience and will in the face of adversity, demonstrating excellent leadership in network restoration in flood-affected areas. The work done by the technical staff has been excellent and should be commended.”
Zong’s goal for the future is to continuously improve and evolve so that it can provide its customers with the best network services possible, which is especially significant in the current economic climate.
