PTA Extend Mobile Phone Tax Relief for Overseas Pakistanis

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has approved the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the tax relief period on mobile phones for personal use from two months to six months.

The PTA officials informed the National Assembly (NA) Committee on Information Technology about the matter. According to the PTA proposal, overseas Pakistanis will not need to register their mobile phones in Pakistan if their stay is up to six months.

Now, all foreigners visiting Pakistan will have to register and pay tax on their devices if their stay is over two months. Otherwise, the PTA blocks his mobile phone if the order is not accepted.

But the PTA has proposed to add another four months to the tax subsidy. The plan is still under the approval of the authorities.

In March 2022, the PTA proposed a “temporary registration system” for overseas Pakistanis that provided four months of registration relief instead of two months, but it has not yet been implemented.
