Mahnoor Baloch, a well-known Pakistani actor, has at last spoken out about her intention to take an indefinite hiatus from the screen, blaming the lack of diversity in the nation’s media business. Baloch highlighted her dissatisfaction with the few positions available for women of diverse age groups and backgrounds during an Eid special appearance on a local TV channel.
Baloch discussed the issue and emphasised the necessity for the industry to catch up with the rest of the globe in terms of producing stories on varied subjects and individuals of various ages. She continued by saying that, in contrast to the global media sector, which offers a wide variety of roles, the Pakistani media sector mostly focuses on love stories with performers who are much older than their characters.
Baloch also emphasised the discrimination that occurs when actors are chosen for romantic comedies. “The hero won’t appear old, even though he’s 55 years old. However, a woman of her age would typically play the mother of the hero, she said. “It appears that people’s perspectives are shifting, and they no longer accept it.”
The seasoned actor emphasised the need to develop roles for women of various ages and origins as he urged the industry to change to reflect this new perspective. Baloch’s position draws attention to a problem that has long plagued Pakistan’s entertainment sector and serves as a reminder that inclusivity and diversity are crucial to effective storytelling.
Many people have found resonance in Baloch’s message, and her remarks have sparked a discussion about the need for change in the industry. It’s critical that we build a media landscape that represents the various perspectives and experiences of Pakistan’s citizens as we advance.
