Pakistan’s Skardu – On August 14, Pakistan Independence Day, Skardu’s first international flight from Dubai is expected to touch down at the airport in the city. Gilgit-Chief Baltistan’s Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani made the declaration.
Given that the runways at Gilgit and Chitral airports are not suitable for long-haul flights, Skardu Airport is the only airport in the northern region that can accommodate larger aircraft.
Imran Khan, a former prime minister, designated Skardu Airport as a “international” airport in December 2021. Due to the lack of a suitable refueling station for international flights, however, its full potential remained unrealized.
Luckily, the refueling facility problem has been fixed, and it is anticipated to be officially opened on August 11th. A 12-successful Airbus A320 flight connecting Skardu to important Pakistani towns recently contributed to the region’s tourism boom.
Another update from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) made it clear that polio vaccination records are not necessary for travelers to and from Skardu.
The CAA issued a warning against believing false online offers that purported to supply polio immunization cards in order to stop fraudulent activity. Instead, travelers are urged to research the health regulations of the country they intend to go to, especially with regard to polio vaccinations.
This initiative is encouraging the development of Skardu’s tourism industry and its connectivity to the rest of the world, providing new doors of opportunity for Pakistan’s picturesque north.
