This Ramadan, a powerful partnership is bringing much-needed relief to water-scarce communities in Pakistan. P&G Pakistan, in collaboration with Imtiaz Group, the country’s largest retailer, and Health Oriented Preventive Education (HOPE), a dedicated non-governmental organization, have joined hands to deliver an impressive 500,000 liters of clean drinking water. This initiative marks the 20th anniversary of P&G’s Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program and offers consumers a meaningful way to contribute during the holy month.
The “Buy 1, Give 1 Day of Water” campaign, running from March 24th to 30th, 2025, will be active across all 31 Imtiaz retail locations nationwide. For every purchase of select P&G products – including Ariel, Pampers, Always, Gillette, Head & Shoulders, Pantene, and Safeguard – consumers will contribute to providing a day’s worth of clean drinking water for someone in need. This simple act transforms everyday shopping into a powerful force for good, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility during Ramadan.
Ovais Ather Yousuf, Chief Executive Officer of P&G Pakistan, emphasized the company’s commitment, stating, “At P&G, we believe that small actions can drive big change. Our CSDW program has proudly delivered 1 billion liters of clean drinking water across Pakistan, a testament to our dedication to improving lives. This partnership with Imtiaz and HOPE allows us to continue this vital mission, turning everyday purchases into a source of hope for those who need it most.”
The global water crisis remains a significant challenge, with 2.2 billion people lacking access to safe drinking water. Tragically, diarrhea caused by contaminated water is a leading cause of death among young children in developing countries, including Pakistan. Beyond health issues, the lack of clean water contributes to a multitude of community challenges. Established in 2004, the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program addresses this crisis by raising awareness and providing clean water solutions, particularly during emergencies and natural disasters. The program utilizes P&G Purifier of Water packets, a revolutionary technology developed by P&G scientists in partnership with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. These small, affordable packets can purify dirty water in just 30 minutes using a simple bucket, spoon, and cloth.
Umer Imtiaz, Chief Executive Officer of Imtiaz Group, highlighted the significance of the partnership: “At Imtiaz, we believe in giving back to the communities we serve. Partnering with P&G and HOPE for this initiative allows us to make every purchase more meaningful, ensuring that this Ramadan, generosity extends beyond our stores and into the lives of those who need it most.”
Dr. Mubina Agboatwala, Founder of the HOPE Foundation, underscored the transformative impact of access to clean water. “Access to clean water changes lives, and this initiative demonstrates the power of collaboration in achieving real impact. Together with P&G and Imtiaz, we are not just providing water; we are delivering health, dignity, and hope to communities in need during this blessed month of Ramadan.”
P&G continues to support the CSDW Program through technical expertise, financial investment, human resources, and its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Singapore, which produces the P&G Purifier of Water packets. P&G is committed to combating the clean water crisis through partnerships with NGOs, governments, companies, and consumers, with a global goal of delivering 25 billion liters of clean drinking water by 2025. This Ramadan initiative in Pakistan is a significant step towards achieving that goal, demonstrating the power of collective action to make a tangible difference in the lives of those facing water scarcity.
