Pakistan’s game fishing scene has a new national hero! Mr. Basir Shamsie, the President & CEO of JS Bank, has officially broken the Pakistan record for Striped Marlin, as recognized by the Pakistan Game Fish Association (PGFA). The impressive 198.4 lbs marlin was caught approximately 40 nautical miles offshore from Karachi, near the continental shelf known as Khadda.
The powerful fish, measuring a remarkable 110.4 inches in length and boasting a 40-inch girth, put up an intense 75-minute fight before being successfully reeled in using the trolling method. This achievement underscores the growing enthusiasm for game fishing along Pakistan’s extensive coastline.
Mr. Shamsie highlighted the unique connection with nature and the importance of marine conservation that game fishing offers. He commended the PGFA for their work in promoting ethical fishing practices and marine ecosystem protection.
The PGFA also acknowledged Mr. Hassan Sohail, a Director at Unibro Industries and a dedicated angler, for his commitment to marine conservation through the catch and release of three juvenile Marlins. Mr. Sohail is a former Striped Marlin record holder and currently holds the national record for Blue Marlin. His efforts are valued by the PGFA and the Karachi fishing community for their contribution to preserving marine life for future generations. The sportfishing community in Pakistan continues to expand, with the PGFA playing a vital role in fostering both sporting excellence and environmental responsibility.
