Sony’s PlayStation 5 (PS5) is already difficult to buy in Pakistan and is growing increasingly pricey. The next-generation console (digital edition) currently costs roughly Rs 180,000 in the country, up from around Rs 90,000 a year ago. Unfortunately, this is not the end of the story for gamers.
Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, revealed in a blog post that the business is boosting the official price of the PS5 in select areas owing to “difficult economic conditions.” He stated that the corporation was forced to make a difficult decision in light of global inflation rates and currency volatility. Customers in the United States, on the other hand, will be unaffected.
Sony is raising the suggested retail price of its PlayStation 4 console in Canada, Mexico, Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA), Latin America, China, Australia, and Japan. The adjustment will take effect in Japan on September 15. The price of the PS5 disc and digital editions will rise by €50 in Europe and £30 in the UK. In Japan, the console will cost about $10,000 more.
In Europe, the PS5 now costs €449.99 for the digital edition and €549.99 for the disc edition. This implies that the console will cost more than Rs 200,000 in Pakistan. It already costs around Rs 230,000 in some outlets, therefore we could see a price tag of Rs 250,000 or higher.
Ryan stated that Sony’s current top priority is to increase PlayStation supply so that more people can access it. According to him, the price hike is “necessary given the current global economic scenario.” The CEO stated that Sony will be able to ramp up manufacturing in May of next year, however this may not be enough to fulfil the world’s rising demand.
