PTCL Group's Partnership with Nokia for Network Transformation

Leading Pakistani telecom company PTCL Group and Nokia are collaborating to transform the country’s optical ultra-long-haul network, enabling an astounding 15 Terabits per second (15T) capacity. In Pakistan, this cooperative endeavor establishes a new benchmark for network scalability and performance.

The successful implementation of 1 Terabit per lambda in the Metro network by PTCL Group and its prior utilization of Nokia’s CD-F (Colorless, Directionless, Flex-grid) technology for effective traffic management are the foundations of this change. With its ultra-long-haul network, PTCL Group is about to launch Pakistan’s first “commercial deployment” of 400G per lambda in response to the increasing demand for bandwidth-intensive applications. Nokia’s cutting-edge CDC-F (Colorless, Directionless, Contentionless, Flex-grid) technology and 1 Terabit in the metro layer with updated chipsets will be used to accomplish this.

CDC-F technology allows for high capacity and low latency by enabling the transmission of optical signal components in any color and direction at any time. With this development, the transport network capacity of PTCL Group will be greatly increased, meeting the changing demands of carrier, consumer, and corporate clients and strengthening network resilience in the event of a calamity.

Additionally, this technology supports environmental objectives by reducing power consumption by 5,000 watts per 400G, which is predicted to result in significant energy savings. The PTCL Group intends to launch cutting-edge products like Network as a Service (NaaS), providing customers with new business models and bandwidth on demand.

In an era of exponential data growth, Jafar Khalid, Group Chief Technology & Information Officer at PTCL & Ufone 4G, highlights the significance of high-capacity solutions and sustainable networks, helping to create a more environmentally friendly and sustainable network architecture.

Senior Vice President of Nokia MEA’s Network Infrastructure, Roque Lozano, emphasizes the team’s dedication to tackling issues related to data expansion while adopting environmentally responsible methods, enabling a robust and sustainable digital future.

This alliance offers a robust solution to meet the demands of processing the growing volumes of data generated by the use of smartphones, the Internet of Things, social media platforms, and digitalization across industries.
