Pakistan's First Hand-Drawn Animation Debuts at Cannes

The Pakistan Crescent Collective marked its arrival at the Cannes Film Festival with a groundbreaking panel discussion. The event featured the team behind “The Glassworker,” Pakistan’s first hand-drawn animated feature film.

Moderated by filmmaker Mohammed Ali Naqvi, the discussion offered a glimpse into the film’s creation. Director Usman Riaz and Producer Khizer Riaz shared their experiences bringing this landmark project to life.

“The Glassworker” tells a captivating story set in a country inspired by Pakistan. It focuses on a father-son glassmaking duo whose lives are disrupted by war and the arrival of a colonel and his daughter. The film boasts a stellar voice cast and is set for an Annecy World Premiere.

“It’s an honor to present our journey at Cannes,” said Usman Riaz. “The love and support for ‘The Glassworker’ is truly special.”

Khizer Riaz echoed this sentiment, thanking the Pakistan Crescent Collective. “Being acknowledged at Cannes is a dream come true,” he remarked.
