The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has intensified its crackdown on illegal SIM issuance in Lahore, Pakistan. In a joint operation with the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, the PTA raided a Mobilink (Jazz) franchise in Depalpur, District Okara.
The raid followed numerous complaints from local residents, primarily women, alleging that their fingerprints were misused to obtain SIM cards under the guise of distributing ration through the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).
During the operation, authorities seized 25 suspicious SIMs and two suspected BVS devices. The franchise retailer was arrested, and an FIR was registered with the FIA Cybercrime Circle for further investigation.
This action is part of the PTA’s ongoing efforts to curb the illegal issuance of SIM cards, which can be used for various illicit activities. The PTA has been working closely with law enforcement agencies to identify and address such violations.
