Aga Khan University Offers Free Nutrition Training to Improve Health Outcomes

Aga Khan University’s Institute for Global Health and Development (IGHD) has launched free, online nutrition courses specifically for healthcare professionals across Pakistan. Part of the IGNIT3 project, these courses aim to equip doctors, dietitians, nurses, and midwives with practical skills to integrate nutrition into clinical care, addressing the pressing nutritional needs of women, children, and adolescent girls in Pakistan.

The IGNIT3 project, “Increase Gains in Nutrition by Integration, Education, Evaluation & Empowerment,” launched in 2023 with a five-year plan funded by Global Affairs Canada. In collaboration with Pakistan’s IGHD, the Centre for Global Child Health at The Hospital for Sick Children, Nutrition International, and WaterAid Pakistan, the project seeks to build healthcare capacity in Pakistan, Ghana, and Malawi.

Offered through the World Continuing Education Alliance (WCEA) platform, these courses are accessible from any device, with offline options to suit healthcare workers’ needs. Participants who complete the program receive certificates accredited by the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Pakistan Medical Council. Dr. Zulfiqar A. Bhutta, founding director of IGHD, notes that the courses are “tailored for Pakistan’s healthcare challenges” and emphasize equitable care and nutrition’s link to gender and environment.

Health professionals can register at wcea.education/register, selecting Pakistan as their country to access this essential training.
