The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has teamed up with Macter International Limited to combat the growing obesity crisis in Pakistan through awareness and public health initiatives. The partnership was formalized during a two-day Obesity Management Workshop held in Islamabad, where leading healthcare professionals emphasized the urgent need for collective action to tackle obesity and its related health risks.

Obesity in Pakistan has reached alarming levels, with the World Obesity Federation ranking the country among those with the highest obesity rates, affecting nearly half the population. Even more concerning is the forecast that 5.4 million school-aged children in Pakistan will be obese by 2030. Medical experts at the event highlighted the links between obesity and chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and kidney issues.

During the workshop, Professor Bilal Bin Younis pointed out that most pre-diabetic individuals in Pakistan are already obese, making early intervention critical. Dr. Ayla Khan stressed the importance of creating specialized obesity management setups that meet global standards. Aamir Naveed, representing Macter, shared the company’s vision for expanding obesity prevention programs across the country, underscoring the importance of diagnosis in effective disease management.

To put this vision into action, Macter signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with several health-focused organizations including CDA, OlaDoc, Marham, Sehat Kahani, and Lions Club. These partnerships aim to roll out community-based awareness campaigns and obesity management initiatives in hospitals and clinics throughout Pakistan.

This joint effort between public and private sectors marks a significant step forward in promoting public health and tackling one of the most pressing health issues in the country.
