Meta Brings Urdu to Meta AI, Launches AI Literacy & Digital Transformation Program in Pakistan

Meta has taken a major step toward advancing Pakistan’s digital future by launching a series of AI and digital transformation initiatives in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT). The announcement came during Meta’s “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event, which gathered government leaders, academia, and industry experts to discuss how artificial intelligence can reshape Pakistan’s digital ecosystem.

At the event, Meta announced that its AI assistant—Meta AI—now supports Urdu, allowing users across Pakistan to interact naturally in their local language. This feature will help millions of Pakistanis access information, connect with others, and explore opportunities in their preferred language, making technology more inclusive and accessible.

Meta also introduced a localized version of its guide, Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama, developed with Deloitte and supported by MoITT. The guide outlines how Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama, can enhance government efficiency, improve public services, and promote data sovereignty through secure and sustainable AI adoption.

In partnership with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), MoITT, and atomcamp, Meta launched an AI Literacy Program to train 350 non-computer science faculty members across Pakistan. This initiative aims to equip educators with foundational AI knowledge, ensuring that students from all disciplines are prepared for an AI-driven future.

Meta also announced the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025, a new program designed to help government organizations adopt cutting-edge digital tools and best practices. Through this initiative, Meta will share its technologies, frameworks, and success models to accelerate Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda.

Federal Minister for IT & Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, said the collaboration aligns with the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision, emphasizing inclusivity and nationwide digital empowerment. She highlighted that bringing Urdu to Meta AI is a major step in ensuring no citizen is left behind in Pakistan’s digital journey.

Leaders from academia, including Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Vice Chair of NCEAC, and Fizza Amjad, CEO of atomcamp, praised the initiative for bridging the gap between education and industry. They noted that empowering non-technical faculty with AI skills will create a lasting impact across universities and inspire thousands of students nationwide.

Sarim Aziz, Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia at Meta, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s AI ambitions. He said Meta’s ongoing partnerships with MoITT, HEC, and NCEAC are part of a long-term vision to strengthen the country’s AI ecosystem and foster responsible innovation.

With Urdu support for Meta AI, nationwide AI training, and a focus on digital governance, Meta is positioning itself as a key partner in Pakistan’s journey toward a smarter, more connected, and innovation-driven future.
