HMD Global, yesterday announced that its CEO Arto Nummela has stepped down from his position. However, what’s surprising is that CEO Arto Nummela is leaving the company with “immediate effect.”

Through a mutual agreement between CEO Arto Nummela and the HMD Global Board of Directors, Arto Nummela will leave HMD with immediate effect, the company said in a statement, at late evening yesterday.

This resignation comes as a shock as Nokia finally appeared to be strengthening their game in the smartphone arena. Despite this, the company is all set for the launch of Nokia 8 later this month.

The reason behind Nummela resigning is still unclear at the moment as the company pointed out that the decision was mutual. As of now, Florian Seiche, HMD Global’s president, has been appointed to the additional role of acting CEO, the company added. HMD Global launches refreshed Nokia 105, Nokia 130 feature phones.

In a statement announcing the management changes, Sam Chin, HMD Global’s chairman of the Board, said:

“On behalf of the whole Board, I thank Arto for his contribution and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

To recap, Arto Nummela joined HMD Global last year. Before HMD Global, he served leadership roles at Nokia and then Microsoft in sales and marketing.

HMD products are built by a unit of Foxconn. The company acquired the manufacturing and distribution assets of Nokia phone business from Microsoft last year. Having said that, earlier this year, HMD re-entered Pakistan with the classic 3310 feature phone with bright colors.

The refreshed 3310 costs Rs 6,490 in Pakistan. However, the company has launched the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 Android-powered smartphones recently. The company recently announced that all the future Nokia-branded smartphones sold in Pakistan.
