After Khaani, Khalish by Geo TV has full potential to take drama lovers by the storm. The story revolves around how the arduous search for money and status destroys the lives of those who seek purity in love and relationships. Altamash Behram (Asif Raza Mir) falls in love and marries a girl with a poverty-stricken background.

He decides to keep the marriage hidden from his family because of his fear of losing Mumtaz. Little did he know this decision would push Mumtaz (Zainab Qayyum) towards her eternal doom, “Khalish” darama written by Imran Ali Safir, Directed by Syed Ali Raza Usama under the banner of Ice Media & Entertainment.

Tired of Behram’s excuses and the inhibitions of living alone force Mumtaz to confront Behram’s family. When the queen of Altamash Empire, Mukhtar Begum finds out about the marriage, she outright condemns Behram from ever seeing his wife again and blackmails him into leaving her there and then. The scene where Mumtaz jinxes the family saying “Koi ai ga aur tum sab ko is ghar say nikalega” was hair-raising. The second episode aired last Wednesday 8 pm and the story has picked on a speedy momentum.

Mumtaz now has a grown up son, Sahil (Faisal Qureshi) who she has raised with extreme difficulties and suffering. Sahil has lost the love of his life Nageen  (Sunita Marshal) for she belongs to a higher status and financial class. Financial gains have again overruled the search for love and destroyed the peace of this mother and son. Mumtaz’s health starts deteriorating and she has no option but to reach out to Altamash Behram to secure the future of her son. She breaks the pledge of ever seeing the face of her cowardly husband again and calls him home.

The most heart wrenching scenes in the drama begin when Sahil meets his long forgotten father for the first time. Fists clenching and tears trickling down his cheeks, the man is a sight. Faisal Qureshi has flawlessly shown the breaking down of someone who has seen the worse in life owing to his family circumstances. He stubbornly refuses to accept his father who abandoned them to suffer the cruelties of society alone when his family needed him the most.

A Message on the Repercussions of Jealousy “Kaif-e-Baharan”

On the other side and quite ironically, Faisal’s lost love Nageen is now married to Altamasha Behram’s son, Feroz (Kamran Jilani) who inflicts intense emotional torture on her.  Will Sahil fulfil his mother’s last wish and agree to go live with the family responsible for his mother’s ruination? Will Sahil ever be able to move past his painful childhood memories or will he seek revenge from Altamasha Behram?

The future of Sahil remains an enigma but we have full clarity on one thing. This story is an epitome of how tragically the love of power wins over the power of love.
