Internet Explorer from Microsoft had a significant part in our lives, particularly those who have been associated with computing over the years. It was in 1995 when the browser was introduced with Windows 95 as an add-on package Plus!

However, following that the other versions of the Internet Explorer were either OEM (original equipment manufacturer releases, in-service packs, or free downloads.
In 2003, the browser had a 95% share of usage and was at its absolute peak. However, this popularity was a short-lived one, since many competitors came to the forefront
In 2016, Internet Explorer’s new feature development was discontinued. In the same year, Microsoft introduced another browser called Edge. Hence, the company gradually began to take the browser out of the equation.

On November 30, 2020, support for IE was ended by Microsoft Teams. On the other hand, on August 17, 2021, support for IE in terms of new feature development came to end by Microsoft 365. Reports indicate that Microsoft has now planned to discontinue Internet Explorer from tomorrow i.e., June 15, 2022.

According to the Program Manager for Microsoft Edge, Sean Lyndersay, “The future of Internet Explorer on Windows 10 is in Microsoft Edge”.

He further added that “Not only is Microsoft Edge a faster, more secure, and more modern browsing experience than Internet Explorer, but it is also able to address a key concern: compatibility for older, legacy websites and applications”.

“Microsoft Edge has Internet Explorer mode (‘IE mode’) built-in, so you can access those legacy Internet Explorer-based websites and applications straight from Microsoft Edge. With Microsoft Edge capable of assuming this responsibility and more, the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10,” he added.

People in the late 90s and early 2000s have fond memories of using Internet Explorer. There is no denying the fact that Internet Explorer was the first official source for connecting people with the World Wide Web back in the day.
