The Finance Minister, Miftah Ismail, has commented on the heartbreaking viral video of a Karachi mother who revealed that she was struggling to make ends meet due to rising costs.
The finance minister emphasised that neither the government increased the power tariff in June nor imposed new taxes on pharmaceuticals in reaction to the video, which was uploaded by the host of the “Capital Talk” programme Hamid Mir.
The woman had stated that she was struggling to make ends meet because of rising inflation, an overpriced power rate, and expensive prescription drugs. She claimed that she is unable to buy medications for her epileptic son.
Miftah expressed his sympathy for the woman and said he recognized both her suffering and her difficulties. According to him, the majority of Pakistanis are in similar positions, but this is due to the previous administration’s actions.
“Neither we nor the coalition government increased any taxes on pharmaceuticals in June,” the statement reads.
Miftah defended the difficult choices made by the current administration, claiming that if they hadn’t, Pakistan would have defaulted like Sri Lanka.
