The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through its Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced that visitors holding tourist visas will be permitted to perform Umrah. The statement clarified that citizens of 49 countries – including the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Australia, France, Singapore, New Zealand etc. – are legible to use the new form of application. The procedure can be carried out by booking online through ‘Visit Saudi Arabia’ or by securing one on arrival at their airport.

The official statement does not mention India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia on their list of 49 countries enjoying this facility; despite, the large number of Muslims seeking a visa to perform the Umrah from these states.

Under the new regulation, all visitors can obtain a tourist visa, valid for 12 months, to visit other cities in the Kingdom. While, visitors previously holding a visa for the US, the UK or the Schengen visa are also allowed to utilize this privilege. The decision has been taken to permit a large number of tourists to observe the holy ritual.

Addressing further queries, the ministry notified that those wishing to perform Umrah from nations other than those mentioned can do so by applying for visas at the Kingdom’s embassies in their respective countries. Whereas, visitors with a family visit visa in the Kingdom are allowed to perform Umrah, by booking through the Eatmarna app.

Additionally, the ministry also highlighted the required documentation for the procedure including residence and employment certifications, a return ticket, banking statement or proof of financial stability, itinerary, and complete personal information.

Detailing the requirements to perform Umrah, the authorities outlined that visitors are required to obtain a complete health insurance package, including coverage for the costs of COVID-19 treatment, accidents resulting in death or disability, and expenses arising from flight delays or cancellations.
