There is a good reason why the new iPhones in Pakistan cost so much. Import taxes have been raised again, making the base model of the iPhone 14 cost more than the iPhone 13 Pro Max from last year, which had twice as much storage.
According to the new prices, the 128 GB iPhone 14 costs Rs. 419,999, the base iPhone 14 Plus costs Rs. 459,999, the cheapest iPhone 14 Pro costs Rs. 489,999, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max costs Rs. 529,999. But these are based on commercial rates, which are always higher than the cost of a phone plus import taxes. Just for import taxes, the new rates are shown in the tables below.

Note that these rates have been in effect since August 22 and will continue to be in effect until the same date next year. As always, the fees for importing with a passport and importing with a CNIC are different. Based on these rates, it should cost about Rs. 276,100 to bring in an iPhone 14 with a passport. A basic iPhone 14 costs $799, which is Rs. 184,701. When you add the 17% sales tax (Rs. 31,399) and Rs. 60,000, you get Rs. 276,100. This shows how much profit phone stores usually make.
This means that all new phones, especially top-of-the-line phones, will have ridiculously high prices when they come out in Pakistan. For example, Samsung’s new foldables will likely cost you around Rs. 400,000 or more.
