US media said on Friday that actor Louise Fletcher had died. In 1976, she won an Oscar for her role as the evil Nurse Ratched in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”

The 88-year-old woman died at her home in southern France, Variety and Deadline reported, citing her representatives. She is survived by two sons.

Even though she is best known for playing Ratched, Fletcher had a long acting career that lasted more than 60 years and included many roles on TV shows.

She had a recurring part in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and was nominated for an Emmy in 1996 and 2004 for guest-starring roles in Picket Fences and Joan of Arcadia.

Fletcher was born in 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama, to parents who couldn’t hear. During her Oscar speech, she used sign language to thank them for their support.

IMDb.com says that her last work was a guest role in two episodes of the Netflix show Girlboss in 2017.
