Pakistani Athlete Shahida Raza Dies in Italy Boat Disaster

Shahida Raza, a former hockey player for Pakistan at the international level, was tragically killed in an incident involving a migrant boat off the coast of Italy. At least 59 persons, including several other Pakistanis, perished in the overloaded boat that sank in rough seas on Sunday.

Shahida was one of the sad incident’s victims, and her passing has left the entire athletic community in despair. Shahida, who was born in Quetta, was going through a challenging moment in her life after being divorced and struggling as a single mother, according to people close to the athlete. She made the decision to illegally immigrate to Europe in an effort to secure a brighter future.

Shahida, also known as Chinttu in her circles, was a well-known hockey player who represented Pakistan in both national football matches and international hockey championships. Shehla Raza, vice president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), Tanzila Amir Cheema, secretary of the PHF Women Wing, and other hockey-related individuals have praised her services to the sport.

Shahida’s tragic passing has shocked the sports world, and her loss will be felt keenly by everyone who knew her. Her tragic passing serves as a reminder of the difficulties and risks that migrants incur in order to provide for their families and themselves.

The government is being urged to act quickly to stop similar occurrences from occurring in the future as the investigation into the boat catastrophe continues. The terrible deaths of Shahida and the other passengers on the migrant boat emphasise the urgent need for safer migration routes and regulations that safeguard migrants’ rights and safety.
