Former PCB Chairman Najam Sethi has warned the Afghanistan Cricket Board ahead of their upcoming series in Sharjah. The caution comes amidst growing tensions and escalating violence on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Asif Ali and Fareed Ahmad Malik got into a heated argument at the Asia Cup last year, and Sethi urged the ACB to control their players’ behavior during the series.
It’s a good idea to have a backup plan in case something goes wrong. He underlined the significance of managing players’ emotions, noting that winning and losing are inherent in sports and that Pakistan has practice in doing so.
Sethi also acknowledged Afghanistan’s need to control its players given that the country is still a relative newcomer to international cricket. The warning comes amid mounting violence along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and rising tensions between the two nations.
The two teams’ series is scheduled to take place in Sharjah, and Sethi’s admonition emphasises the need of upholding sportsmanship and discipline both on and off the field. How the ACB handles its players during the series and reacts to Sethi’s admonition is yet to be seen.
