Leena Rafeeq Creates an app to Detect Eye Diseases

After developing an iPhone software that uses artificial intelligence to identify eye disorders, an 11-year-old girl from Kerala, India, has become an internet celebrity. After six months of research on a variety of topics, including computer vision, algorithms, machine learning models, eye disorders, and advanced levels of Apple iOS development, self-taught programmer Leena Rafeeq created the Ogler Eye Scan app. Her app can identify a number of eye problems, including cataracts, pterygia, arcus, and melanoma.

Leena’s article went viral when she posted about her accomplishment on LinkedIn, and people online have been celebrating her success. You deserve a great congrats, Leena. Such an outstanding job at the age of 10, according to one user who said, “It’s impressive to read about your success of inventing an AI mobile app that can diagnose various eye ailments and problems.”

However, some users have voiced concerns about whether the software would qualify as a medical device and need to comply with current medical device rules. Despite this, users have generally expressed appreciation and good luck wishes for Leena, and the reaction has been largely positive.

Ultimately, Leena’s tale demonstrates the strength of self-motivation and tenacity and shows that age is no impediment to creativity and achievement.
