Telecom Firms Demand Free 5G Spectrum for 5 Years to Test Performance

Pakistan’s telecom firms have asked for unrestricted use of 5G airwaves for five years to evaluate the technology’s performance. The businesses contend that before beginning to pay for the technology, they must assess its deployment and effects. Also, they asked for tax breaks on the import of 5G technology.

In order to evaluate the impact and the required expenditure, the corporations want to be permitted to test 5G before auctioning the spectrum. According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the government would evaluate global regulations regarding the rollout of 5G after consulting with partners.

Also, the telecom firms urged the government to enact legislation that would forbid the importation of 2G and 3G devices. The government would employ a regular consultant in this regard, according to PTA, which has confirmed this.

The adoption of 5G technology would present Pakistan’s telecom sector with both fresh opportunities and difficulties. The short-term revenue of the government may be impacted by the demand for free 5G spectrum usage. However before making an investment, it will be helpful for the businesses to test and assess the technology and its effects. Soon, the government is anticipated to announce regulations governing the rollout of 5G in Pakistan.
