On social media, Maryam Nawaz, the vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), posted a video of herself making fruit chaat. Some saw the action as an effort to interact with potential voters as Punjab’s general elections draw closer.
The classic iftar dish is made at home by Maryam and her companion Marriyum Aurangzeb in the video. Even the vital job of sprinkling chaat masala on the fruit bowl was handed to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting.

While some people admired Maryam’s cooking abilities, others criticised the action as being disconnected from the problems that ordinary people confront. Many individuals struggle to make money meet and cannot afford even flour, let alone fruit chaat, as one Twitter user noted.
Masses are unable to buy fruits as prices go over the roof in the last one year. But thank you for showing it to people who are losing thier lives even for a few kg flour bag.

The Punjab General Elections were postponed at the request of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), and the Supreme Court has now ruled on the case. Elections must take place on May 14 after the court deemed the ECP’s decision to be invalid.
It would be interesting to observe how Maryam and her party fare in the upcoming elections and whether or not the voters will be swayed by her prowess in creating fruit chaats.
