Unilever Pakistan and HANDS Build Resilient Thatta Village

A model community in Thatta was built from the rubble of the floods of 2022 thanks to a partnership between Unilever Pakistan and HANDS Pakistan. Following the flood, Unilever Pakistan started the “Adopt a Village” effort, concentrating on Thatta and D.G. Khan. With the help of HANDS Pakistan, these villages were transformed by providing them with sturdy houses, necessary amenities, clean water, energy, and education.

A local Community-Based Organization (CBO) that was co-managed by Unilever and HANDS offered skills and resources to help people diversify their sources of income. The community was revitalized by building 90 dwellings, making its residents hardy and independent. The Chairman and CEO of Unilever Pakistan, Amir Paracha, emphasized the importance of climate readiness and resilience.

Dr. Shaikh Tanveer Ahmed, the CE of HANDS Pakistan, described their dedication to the rehabilitation of flood victims. In 2022, Unilever Pakistan’s response included providing clothing, medical assistance, and emergency help through the brands Lifebuoy and Surf Excel.

The concept of model villages emerged in response to Pakistan’s impending climatic concerns to improve communities’ capacity to withstand and respond skillfully. The strategy promotes harmony and is consistent with Unilever’s commitment to helping communities work together to repair lives.
