Pakistani Cricketers Show Support for Gaza

Pakistani Cricketers made a noteworthy gesture by sharing the Palestinian flag on social media. This gesture shows their support for the Gazan people, who have suffered through years of conflict. Notably, in reaction to Israeli bombings directed at Palestinians, Hamas launched a sudden offensive on Israeli military installations and settlements on October 7. After that, over 7,000 Palestinians have tragically died as a result of Israeli fighter jets bombarding Gaza for the previous 10 days, many of them were children.

Tragically, 500 people died after an Israeli aircraft struck Gaza City’s Al-Ahli Arab Hospital. Notable people around the world expressed deep sadness and rage at this incident.

In spite of these events, the Pakistani cricket team—which is currently playing in India—has posted pictures of the Palestinian flag on the social media site “X” in an effort to show their solidarity and support for the Palestinian cause. Prominent cricket players including Muhammad Nawaz and Haris Rauf have all participated in this gesture.

It’s important to note that just a few days before, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman, Mohammad Rizwan, gave credit to the Palestinian people for his superb performance against Sri Lanka. This gesture elicited heated reactions from viewers in India and Israel.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) was questioned by Indian journalist Vikrant Gupta about the rules governing the political and religious remarks made by cricket players at ICC events in reaction to this. Later, the ICC made it clear that as long as these statements take place outside the playing field, they are not under their purview.

After India defeated Pakistan in a match that was very important on October 14, the official Israeli Twitter account expressed satisfaction with India’s triumph while simultaneously criticizing Pakistan.
