T20 World Cup 2024: ICC’s Playing Conditions

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is the highlight of this cricket season. To ensure smooth execution of the entire tournament, ICC has created a set of rules and playing conditions.

With a record number of 20 teams taking part in the tournament, it’s super important to have rules in place to counter any unforeseen hurdles and to keep the spirit of cricket alive.

Let’s go through the ICC conditions for World Cup 2024.

ICC conditions for T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final

ICC has allotted additional time for the completion of all knockout fixtures at the semi-final and final stage of the event.

An additional time of 250 minutes (3 hours and 10 minutes) is available for both semi-finals. 60 minutes will be available on the day of the first semi-final i.e, 26th June and the rest 190 minutes will be available on the day of the second semi-final i.e, 27th June.

The second semi-final on 27th June has an additional 250 minutes available on the scheduled day, while the final on 29th June has a reserve day on 30th June.

If the reserve day is allocated, every effort should be made to complete the match on the scheduled day with any necessary reduction in overs.

Only if the minimum number of overs necessary to constitute a match cannot be bowled on the scheduled day then the match can be completed on the reserve day.

Moreover, any match, be it from the knockout stage or the group stage, that finishes in a tie will have a Super Over. If the Super Over is a tie then there will be a subsequent Super Over played as long as there is not a clear winner.

T20 World Cup playing conditions; Hours of play

There should be 2 sessions of 1 hour 25 minutes each, separated by a 20-minute interval between innings.

Minimum over rates:

The minimum over rate set by ICC is 14.11 overs per hour. Umpires are directed to calculate the actual over rate at the end of each innings. If there is any diversion from the set rate, necessary adjustments shall be made to make up for the time lost.

ICC conditions World Cup for interrupted matches

If, due to suspension of play after the start of the match, the number of overs in the innings of either team has to be revised to a lesser number than originally allotted (minimum of 5 overs), then a revised target score (to win) should be set for the number of overs which the team batting second will have the opportunity of facing.

This revised target is to be calculated using DLS. The target set will always be a whole number and one run less will constitute a Tie.

T20 World Cup competition format

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be contested by the following twenty (20) teams who have been divided into four Groups as follows:
