A switch in footwear for the airport or the mall may be in order for diehard Crocs clog wearers who value comfort above all else. In response to serious safety concerns, a few of establishments have implemented prohibitions on Crocs and other soft, rubbery shoes when using escalators.
According to reports, escalator accidents with injuries have been happening when people are wearing Crocs or shoes with a similar soft sole. Because of this, significant signage and announcements have been made at airports, train stations, and retail centers around the country to prohibit wearing these shoes on escalators.
These restrictions were put in place as a result of troubling instances that worried the authorities. Notably, a young child had a terrifying encounter in 2018 when his Crocs got caught in an escalator, almost inflicting serious injury.
Despite the fact that Crocs are incredibly comfortable, their soft, rubbery construction really presents a real risk on moving escalators. These restrictions have been placed in place to protect other escalator users as well as Crocs wearers from potential damage.
So be especially careful when approaching escalators the next time you decide to wear your favorite Crocs. If you can’t stand to part with your Crocs, put them in Sport Mode for a tighter fit or get footwear with a hard sole instead.
You may still confidently walk around in Crocs when in malls or airports, just avoid escalators when wearing those soft, bulky clogs. It is crucial for both you and other people to be safe.
