BYD Launches Pakistan’s First PHEV Pickup with Super Hybrid Tech

Pakistan’s electric vehicle journey just hit a major milestone. BYD, the world’s No.1 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) brand, has officially introduced its first PHEV pickup truck in Pakistan—the BYD Shark 6—marking a game-changing moment for the local auto industry. This bold move comes as Pakistan begins aligning with global trends through its New Energy Vehicle (NEV) policy and growing interest in cleaner mobility solutions.

At a recent event in Karachi, BYD Pakistan, under Mega Motor Company, unveiled its Super DM Plug-in Hybrid Technology platform, with the Shark 6 pickup as the showstopper. This launch wasn’t just about showcasing a new vehicle—it was about introducing Pakistani drivers to the next level of hybrid driving. Unlike traditional hybrids, BYD’s Dual Mode (DM) platform prioritizes electric power, with the petrol engine acting as a range extender. The result? A driving experience that feels like an EV but offers the flexibility of fuel for longer journeys.

BYD’s Shark 6 packs a serious punch—boasting 436 HP, 650 Nm of torque, and a combined range of 800 km, with fuel efficiency reaching up to 50 km per liter. It’s the most powerful pickup in Pakistan, and with terrain modes like Mud, Snow, and Sand, it’s built for both city streets and off-road adventures.

Inside the Shark 6 is BYD’s Blade Battery—an in-house innovation known for safety, longevity, and fast power response. Coupled with a highly efficient 1.5L Xiaoyun engine and EHS (Electric Hybrid System), the vehicle promises seamless performance and reduced emissions—up to 62% less CO₂ in cities like Karachi and Lahore.

BYD isn’t just testing the waters—it’s betting big on Pakistan. With plans for local production and a push to redefine hybrid mobility here, the brand is paving the way for PHEVs to become a practical choice for Pakistani consumers looking for a smarter, cleaner drive. As Danish Khaliq, VP Sales & Strategy at BYD Pakistan, put it: “This isn’t just about a new vehicle—it’s about changing how we think about driving in Pakistan.”
