Rawalpindi Police received 1.8m Bogus Calls on Helpline

The police helpline established for the timely assistance of the public has become a problem for the police itself due to fake complaint calls.

Police Helpline 15 is the immediate support of the people in any difficulty, but this vital support has been rendered useless by the unsuspecting people making fake complaints.

Rawalpindi Police has received 2.5 lakh complaint calls during the helpline service this year, out of which 1.8 lakh are fake. Due to this, the police are facing difficulties in performing their duties. Police officials say that fake calls often affect genuine complainants.

CPO Rawalpindi Shehzad Bukhari says that this year, on One Five (15), about 25 lakh calls have been received, out of which 18 lakh calls were fake; we respond to every call. Sometimes it happens that the police are focused on a particular task or incident, but due to a phony call, all the attention is diverted.

Shehzad Bukhari further said that they started registration of cases against those making fake complaints. Cases have been registered against 12 people so far. Fake calls are too many; if patients fill them against everyone, they will file against a large population.

Rawalpindi Police has appealed to avoid unnecessary use of the helpline to ensure the protection of life and property of the public and the adequate performance of the institution.
