Zia Mohyeddin Passes Away at 91

At the age of 91, renowned Pakistani actor Zia Mohyeddin passed away in Karachi. He was widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s best orators and broadcasters, therefore the news of his passing shocked the nation and the arts community.

Mohyeddin, who was born on June 30th, 1931, studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in the UK and went on to have a successful career in acting and broadcasting. He lived in the UK for 47 years and produced classic television shows for PTV.

Despite his success, Mohyeddin never lost his enthusiasm for developing and mentoring young actors. Mohyeddin received the Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2003 and the Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 2012 for his contributions to the arts. The Pakistani community in Dubai also gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award in November 2017.

The well-known orator’s funeral prayers will be recited in Karachi during Zuhr prayers, and many people have expressed their sorrow on social media. Zia Mohyeddin will be remembered for his love of the arts, his dedication to developing talent, and his outstanding achievements in broadcasting and oratory.

Zia Mohyeddin’s passing is an important one for Pakistan, and the innumerable artists and performers whose careers he helped to create will carry on his legacy.
