Hunaid Lakhani, a social worker and the founder of Iqra University (IU), died on Thursday in Karachi. He was 49 years old. Waqar Lakho, his personal secretary, told Dawn.com that Lakhani had gone to Thatta on Monday to help with flood relief.
Lakho said that when he got back to the city, he got a fever and his condition started to get worse. He was later diagnosed with dengue. Lakhani had trouble breathing on Wednesday night and was taken to a hospital in Clifton. Lakho said, “He died early Thursday morning.”
Prayers for his funeral will be said at Masjid-e-Saheem in DHA’s Khayaban-e-Rahat after Asr prayers on Friday. Lakho said that Lakhani’s son and daughter lived abroad, so the funeral prayers would be on Friday.
Everyone was shocked when they heard that Lakhani had died. People in the government, in politics, and in the rights movement all said that his death was a big loss for the country.
